"Even in areas where there has been disturbance, we still find life there, there is a resilience which is inspiring" - PhD students Tara and Mara speak to The Marine Biologist magazine about all things muddy sediments, science communication, and STEM careers.
‘Mud is very much out of sight, out of mind,’ says Tara. ‘It’s not a dazzling as coral reefs and mangrove forests. There’s also the perception that the seabed is quite barren and devoid of life. And it’s just not the case.’
Check out the latest issue of Marine Biologist magazine to find out why PhD students Mara and Tara love working in the muddy depths, what their roles are in the Convex Seascape Survey, and where they think their careers might take them next.
